COMPREHENSIVE POST-EARTHQUAKE RENOVATION OF BUILDINGS WITHIN THE CAMPUS OF THE CROATIAN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY
INVESTOR: Croatian Catholic University
LOCATION: campus HKS, Zagreb
SERVICE: Construction supervision
The renovation project of the Croatian Catholic University campus encompasses the comprehensive structural rehabilitation and adaptation of several protected buildings located at Ilica 244 and the associated structures at 244A, 244K, and 244J, which form part of the historic barracks complex included in the cultural and historical urban area of the City of Zagreb. Following the 2020 earthquake, the buildings sustained significant damage, necessitating the complete execution of works to ensure their structural integrity, safety, and compliance with modern usage standards. The construction supervision and occupational health and safety coordination service includes monitoring of all phases of structural intervention works, execution of technical and finishing works, and supervision of compliance with project and technical documentation and applicable professional standards.
The renovation is being carried out within the framework of a broader campus rehabilitation programme, encompassing historic structures repurposed for administrative, educational, research, and student use, and is financed through a combination of funding from the European Union Solidarity Fund, the Recovery and Resilience Facility, and the state budget. The project places emphasis on the preservation of the architectural and cultural value of the buildings and their integration into contemporary safety and functional requirements, with coordinated occupational health and safety management throughout all phases of construction.
